Need I say more? Also love the glide range ring, though I hope to never need it.

Fill sorry for money that this garbage does not cost at all... Never thought before that it can be done by Garmin(((
Garmin has a great app and has features FF doesnt have. On the other hand GP can be unpredictable. From time to time the aircraft profile stored with Garmin will drop off and not be carried to flight plans which cause the plan to be rejected. If only it were stable it would be shoulders above the rest. Also issues getting support when needed.
This app offers 0 help if you are flying anything besides a direct line. Terrible app use foreflight instead.
I have been using foreflight (5 stars) and Jepp Mobile HD, which is fantastic as a replacement for paper charts but not a full fledge navigation app. The Garmin app STINKS. While the user interface is good, i have no had the entire set of data mysteriously dissapear. Went to jump in plane this morning to fly home from last night and all of a sudden all of the nav data, charts, and maps are gone!!!!! So caution to you all as this has appaerently been happening to many others. Check that you have data before you plane on using the app. Until this is fixed, the app is useless and a peice of crap. Now the currentversion wont even open. Crash crash crash. Back to foreflight and Jepp Mobile FD
It would have been nice if Flying ace 2, the previous reviewer, had upgraded to the most recent version of Garmin Pilot and actually knew something about the program before writing his quite off-the-mark review. Garmin Pilot, in its most recent versions which were released BEFORE the date of his review, fully supports overlaying the approach chart right over the moving map display together with all of the weather and traffic overlays available if you have an ADS-B equipped airplane. It also supports the use of Jeppesen charts which is really only of use to IFR pilots. Finally, it is certainly possible to have multiple windows on the screen. Right now, I have the moving map with weather, traffic and the Jeppesen approach plate on the left screen and, at the same time, an AHRS driven, HSI based panel on the right. These features have been part of Garmin Pilot since before the date of Flying ace 2s review. Garmin Pilot is a fabulous program with a graphics engine superior to ForeFlight at the moment. Garmin came out with a data-driven map display long before ForeFlights newest release and it is still graphically superior. I expect ForeFlight to catch up soon. Thats why I use both in my IFR flying and keep them updated to their respective latest versions.
Full of bugs! My Garmin Pilot app has stopped reading its database twice. I can find no resolution other than to reload the entire database each time. Foreflight is way better! Ill be going back to them as soon as the subscription expires. Maybe even before. Much more intuitive than Garman Pilot.
Youd expect better QA from a company like Garmin but they release this app with bugs time and time again. Latest issue is my iPhone version of the app suddenly stopped syncing logbook data ao signed out and signed back in and now the app doesnt recognize my subscription. After a 30 minute wait to get support on the line they confirmed what appears to be a bug but dont have an ETA for when it will be fixed. Not the first time I run into this type of issue with the app and Garmin.
The software has a lot of potential but there is a couple things that need to be fixed. 1. On VFR map, the label size... I turn it off and next time im opening the app its there again. 2. DATABASE !, need some serious work, the airport in Flagler, FL changed its name 2 years ago from KXFL to KFIN, still no notams available and no AF/D link to the actual page. Hope someone there will wake up and start to work on this app...
This app is great! For VFR most things needed in flight is fairly intuitive, and most things are easy to get to. Even though I fly IFR, I still cant seem to justify the upgrades. The program just seems to put the needs of an IFR pilot as a secondary priority. For example, would be nice to have traffic and weather overlay on the actual approach plate (charts) page. Yes, they do have an overlay on the maps page, but the actual approach plate page from the home buttons doesnt allow any overlays or split screens. How about a split screen with the approach plate page (not the maps page, but the actual approach plate page) and the AHRS for a backup attitude system. Although the safe taxi diagram is nice, it is just to hard to get to. How about a simple safe taxi button from the home menu buttons. Right now it is only available as automatic or from a split menu. Automatic is not helpful when I need to cancel and look up frequencies, and the split screen is not as helpful, as when I need the safe taxi diagram at taxi time, I have no need for the other split screen items and would rather see the airport diagram at the full size of the screen and have frequencies available. Also, while it is possible to add an arrival to the flight plan, there is not an option to add the waypoints of an IFR approach. Sadly the range rings also disappear on the approach plate overlays on the maps page (white on white) and the position trend vector isnt available on the actual approach plate page. In summary, it really is a great program, but needs a little more attention to the needs of an IFR pilot to justify the upgrade cost. I have been using the app since 2012, so I clearly think it is a good piece of software, but the needs of an IFR pilot seem secondary.
Garmin does not keep up with Apple updates. Spent $75 on a subscription that probably wont be fixed until time to renew. Emailed Garmin 3 weeks ago and no reply. Ill have to spend more on fore flight since I need some sort of back up navigation. Problem should have been resolved in less than a week
The Auto Logbook was working nicely when first released, but it hasnt worked reliably for a number of releases now. Should work in the background, even if Garmin Pilot is not in the foreground. It was, now it is not.
Pilot 8.4.4 has a lot going for it. The user interface is much better. Planning a flight can be initiated from the Maps Screen. Deleting waypoints is more flexible now. Plates on Maps Screen is much better than the split screen version. Display options for waypoints is very flexible. There still is one bug that Garmin continues to ignore: this version and prior ones will not consistently keep a plate on the Maps Screen. Leave the screen and plates for some airports disappear on returning. Another shortcoming is that a different plate cannot be on Maps Screen and Charts Screen. The good news is that with ForeFlights price increase for Aero, the vector maps in Garmin Pilot are looking very attractive. So, keep up the good work Garmin. Looking very attractive.
Ive been a Garmin Pilot user since version 1.0, and the latest addition is great! I specially like the Garmin base map, which looks similar to the G1000 base map. Keep up the great work, guys!! The current version now includes Jepp charts, which are amazing if you plan to travel internationally!
This app is a complete waste without a basic subscription there is very little you can do with it without the subscription
Nice app but not aviation quality software. Garmin you need better quality control in your software. Latest bug of many is airports disappear and ads-b displays ghost airplanes
There are good and not so good features, but the unacceptable condition is when you can have everything up to date. Takeoff IFR and get locked out of the app. for the whole weekend. Garmin just decides you are not a customer and locks you out. They dont answer the phone after there bankers hours. When you call on Monday they will reset your password even if you want your old one.
I am a professional aviator that has been using electronic kit bags for years. I use the Garmin Pilot for my personal plane and travel. In August, the app crashed in flight rendering it completely useless until I landed and reestablished an Internet connection. Garmin said it was a known problem with users who had renewed their subscription in the last 7 to 10 days... Just this past weekend, I was traveling from my home airport ,which is adjacent to KAFW, to another airport for the weekend. I knew that a TFR had been established at KAFW due to the arrival and presence of the Thunderbirds. However, the Garmin pilot app DID NOT seem to know it, even though the TFR was in effect for most of the week... It was listed on the FAA site, and Foreflight was displaying it prominently. Once again the Garmin pilot drops the ball and leaves you dangerously exposed. When I brought it up to Garmin this morning, I was told The problem would be passed on to somebody else, and was repeatedly just asked if I had checked Duats... Garmin seems to be missing the point.
If you view the airports page, specifically the fbo section and leave the app, when you open it the next time it hangs up and gives a perpetual "loading" message. Nothing corrects it other than deleting the app and reloading it. This is a repeatable bug.
Great app and have used it for over a year. After upgrading my IPad, it has developed a bug when in the airport page, and it goes into an eternal "loading" condition from which there is no escape.
