Garmin Pilot App Recensioni

Costoso e impreciso negli spazi aerei

Garbage on iPhone

This app is what I use on my iPad but when it comes to using it on my phone, it’s complete garbage. It will force close constantly always at random. You can be flying along following the magenta line and next thing you know, it closed. If you are trying to set up a route or make changes or do anything that requires it to “think” it force closes. You cannot build a plan on your phone in any sort of reliable manner. Please fix your iPhone app. I have stopped recommending Garmin Pilot to my flight students because of this.

Garmin Pilot Review

Garmin continues to add features and improvements to their GP app. Overall this is a very good product. I can only imagine the complexities behind the curtain. This being said, app still drops off line regularly, especially when connected with a 510 card inside the nxi or 3000. I do really like the availability of charts to any airport being at your fingertips. I am still having trouble loading aircraft into the garmin database , as I did this past weekend when operating out of KVGT. The database will not accept my entry due to it not matching some pattern based on aircraft home base location. This is Extremely annoying. Also, when I enter a garmin visual approach as are in the garmin database, the approach will not show up on my iPad, even though my iPad is joined with the 510, or the gdl60. Visual approach courses need to show up on the display as this is a matter of orientation and safety. Please address this issue. Thank you for your dedication.

Learning curve

A bit les user friend than other apps

Love it! Stick to the same interface that you have in the aircraft!

I have been using Garmin Pilot for over 3 years. Overall I have absolutely loved it, especially with my ability to use on both my Samsung Tablet and Samsung Phone (great for the smaller seat on the DA42), but recently I got an iPad and now I love it even more. I mostly appreciate the fact that Garmin Pilot is the same interface as the Garmin equipped aircraft I fly, be it the GNS 430, or the G1000. From a “compare and contrast” standpoint, my understanding is that it is incredibly similar to ForeFlight, except for the direct Garmin integration and interface. I love that it directly connects to my GDL ADSB receiver that I stick on the window. Admittedly the Android version was a bit more limited in feature sets, and I definitely admire the capabilities on the iOS version, but it is clear that the Android version is quickly catching up. For me, any software that can reliably and seamlessly work across popular platforms is a hands down win. Most importantly, and perhaps the biggest win of all, has been the EXCELLENT responsive customer service from Garmin. They had a few issues about 6 months ago with a major update, and before I could get too frustrated, a simple email to their support had it resolved within a few days, with direct communication from their support engineers. They guided me through the steps to send them more detailed logs, and I got personal, valuable, and excellent service to make right what went wrong. Simply put, Garmin Pilot is perfect for my aviation journey as I advance into my CFI instruction, be it Android or iOS, it is simply excellence.

Winds aloft routinely radically wrong

Consistantly flight planning and finding gross errors with winds aloft in the below 10,000 ranges. Flight tonight, fcst winds were a 2 knot tailwind. Had 40kt headwind for an hour. Used 5.6 gallons more. Almost an unplanned fuel stop. Unfortunately, these errors are frequent. When is Digital ATIS ? Jepp has had it for 5 years+

V24.11.0 - AWFUL Wx Imagery - Still!

The weather imagery needs a major overhaul. With all the imagery available from the national weather service, the storm prediction center and the aviation weather center they give you just a small amount to make no decision whatsoever. They also include other countries that aren’t needed when flying in the US. The pilot should only have or need the countries that they are resident in and able to download the other countries if needed. The competition has much better imagery, and I use it instead of Garmin pilots.

Great App

I’ve used Garmin pilot since it came out! If you like garmin equipment you’ll love this app. They are constantly adding new features and interfaces.

App lies about database download status

This app has an insidious error related to database concierge. It will tell you that all downloads are downloaded and ready for install, even though they are weeks out of date. You MUST manually refresh the downloads screen to know whether there are additional downloads for your panel.

Tutorials

If there are tutorials, it is not yet clear where they are. This would be a good user feature to offer. E.g. an intro course to Garmin Pilot.

Better than ForeFlight

Used both Garmin ismy #1

No support

I’ve been using ForeFlight since it was released. I briefly evaluated Garmin Pilot back in 2012, but everyone was going with ForeFlight so I followed the crowd. I thought I would try Garmin Pilot again because most of the avionics in my plane are Garmin products and there were some favorable reviews. Unfortunately, Garmin’s security software prevented me from registering a new account. No explanation, I was just blocked. The error message instructs me to contact Garmin with an error code, but good luck finding help on their website. I will just keep using ForeFlight.

Crashes Out on Map View

I was flying IFR yesterday, and the Garmin Pilot app stopped working simultaneously on two iPads and an iPhone. Attempting to restart the Pilot app resulted in near instantaneous crashes, leaving me without a working set of electronic pubs. Holy cow! Killed the app, hard reset the iPads, nothing worked to fix the problem. Glad I wasn’t in actual IMC.

Battery performance needs some work.

Eats a lot of battery, perhaps not optimized for the M2 iPad Pro?

Great App from Start to Finish

I’ve been using Garmin Pilot for the last 4 years and 400 flight hours. I used it during instrument training and every time I fly now. It’s become my constant companion on every flight and integrates seamlessly with my G1000 avionics and Garmin Aviation watch. I’ve never used any competitors but don’t feel I need to either.

Not keeping up

I’ve been using Garmin Pilot for years and will continue to do so, but lately Garmin has been lacking real substantial progress in adding features that will keep it competitive with ForeFlight.

App does not get past the required downloads.

Does not work

No Wx briefing

Weather briefing doesn’t work. Just gives error message

Garmin Pilot

Been using GP for five years, great system, great customer service, strongly recommend.

Love this app , But!!!

I love and prefer Garmin Pilot over the other options, but we need more , come one is not difficult and is important for the Pilots, Apple Watch App , Passenger App for flight following , Google maps integration with user waypoints and information, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Non existent support

Love the product, when it works. Unfortunately, when Apple updates IOS, we pilots are rolling the dice on compatibility. Maybe this is an Apple issue but the PIC is responsible for flight safety so you still need a backup, ForeFlight I guess.

Great app, but incompatible with iPadOS 17.2 - Garmin, please fix it!

Today I had the unpleasant surprise to find out that Garmin Pilot (latest version) has major issues with iPadOS 17.2 on my 2021 iPad Air, paired with my Garmin GDL 50 GPS/ADS-B/AHRS unit (with the latest firmware v. 2.22). AHRS does not work (no attitude information), no traffic and AHRS data are received. The same unit works when paired with my Android phone, so it is not a hardware issue. I reset Bluetooth on the iPad, reset the GDL 50 AHRS data, forgot/re-paired this device, rebooted it and the iPad, all to no avail. When Pilot is first launched the iPad starts receiving AHRS data, but after about 3 seconds the connection drops and does not recover. This setup worked perfectly on my iPad/GDL 50 last time I flew in early October, with the latest iPadOS/Pilot/GDL 50 firmware versions available at that time. I am writing this with the hope that Garmin engineers will issue a fix soon - this is a major safety issue.

Garmin Tactix 7

Can you please add support for the Garmin Tactix 7 that has an aviation suite already in the watch. I traded in my D2 bravo for a garment tactic seven in hopes that I could use it with my Garmin pilot app but I cannot. I would really enjoy it if I could use it and not have to buy another watch.

Fantastic

Such a help. It’s like another pilot on board

Groundspeed Issue - iPad mini 6th Gen

I’ve now purchased two brand new iPad mini sixth gens to no avail. When using this app on an iPad mini 6, groundspeed and track information does not work. I have the app on my iPhone 14 Pro and my very old iPad Air 2, both of which pick up the groundspeed and DTK just fine. Tried every troubleshooting measure out there on these two iPad minis. Nothing worked. Very surprising for a Garmin product but now I have to use ForeFlight. Very disappointed.

Cant file flight plan

It doesnt load fuel burn estimates, doest provide ETE. Trips generate random error messages making it impossible to file a flight plan. Wasted 2 days and several hours of lost flight time trying to figure this out. The overall flight planning features just seem very clunky overall. You have to scroll down to search for missing required info that isnt available in the flight plan tab. And the names are backward. The tab where you file your flight plan they call “trips” and the flight planning they call “flight plan” even though thats not where you actually file your flight plan. I dont understand why these are two separate tabs. The full flight plan and filing process should be on one tab that includes everything including w&b. Im at my wits end trying to figure out this app. Gonna try a different app or just file plans over the phone

Really annoying

I’ve been using this app for a while and now I’ve tried everything but i can’t get out of settings. Two stars

Garmin Pilot is awesome

I’ve been using the app on my iPad for years. Always reliable and the support is excellent. The support team is eager to listen to suggestions and is very approachable at airventure.

App Human Interface Dessign

The app is very user friendly.

Trial expired

Trial says expired April 17 but I don’t remember activating it

Great App, Minor things I wish we could add

Great app, my school provides subscriptions for free which has really enhanced my training. The only thing I wish is that we could insert into the Chart books/section the respective airport's Chart Supplement page and the Cold Temperature Correction page/table. Those items are critical when flying instrument and preparing the approach, and being unable to have access to those documents within Garmin and in the same section as the Charts is an issue/hindrance I would be quite concerned about if I were to rely on GarminPilot when I actually am working as a commercial pilot one day.

Great Program - How Did I Ever Fly Without It!

Garmin keeps coming up with new features for this program and generally it is bug free. The only downside is that it has gotten so complex that that needs high end iPad with a fast processor to make it run efficiently.

11.1.3 Flight plan..route..menu problem.

Most menu items missing. Can’t invert/reverse route.

Can’t even get started.

Can anyone say buggy? Fields are on top of each other, prefilled info is wrong. It can’t use database already in existence. Seems like Garmin is too big and just hasn’t paid attention to detail.

Version 11 issue

I note Garmin Pilot crashes on both my iPhone and iPad if I select a USA surface analysis chart. Garmin is very good about fixing bugs when they are discovered.

Broken

Latest update is broken. App will not run. Nothing but a black screen when it launches.

Latest update crashed the app

Just updated and it crashed the app. All I have is a black screen now.

A test version crashes my iPad

I’ve owned the app for a couple years with no real problem. Loaded the update and it locks up. Totally unusable

10 years

I downloaded garmin pilot yrs ago….like 10 ish. Did not open it to try. 30 day trial goes by without me using. And still 10 years latter, no trial option. Now that I am flying a lot more, sure would be nice to give it a try without dropping $

Great product interoperable with Android

This product is just as good as Foreflight from what I have experienced, but the biggest differentiator is that your subscription allows you to install on up to three devices, and that includes Android in addition to Apple. All the sync functions work in that configuration also. Support is outstanding from the Garmin Pilot team also.

Work On the W&B!!

Pretty much everything on the app functions correctly except for one thing, and it’s very broken. When creating a trip, if you go to the weight and balance tab within trip planning, and try to load in a saved configuration, it does nothing. I’ve tried many ways to get it to populate the data, and it just won’t do it. I’ve gotten it to work on my android phone, so I know how the feature is supposed to work, but it just doesn’t. Please fix this if you want me to increase my rating.

Too dim to see in cockpit

I have a iphone 13 pro and shortly after take off in my rv-9, which has a bright cockpit, the screen will dim so much that the app unusable. I've tried changing or adjusting every possible setting to no avail. I don't know if Garmin is at fault or apple but this combo simply does not work in bright environments.

One request

Works great with my Garmin suite. I have dual G600txi with a GTN750/650. I use a Flight stream 510 to pair my IPad. Works great on my 414. I also use the App with helicopters utilizing a GDL50. I have the need to fly directly to street addresses. Since Garmin doesn’t allow this function I had to purchase ForeFlight as well. I wish Garmin would add this capability.

If it would not go blank, it would be great.

Has great features but goes blank often, usually at the most inopportune time. A friend has foreflight and it never goes blank. I have the latest iOS on an iPad mini 6th gen and have deleted and reloaded the app several times and it still crashes. I am using on trial subscription that runs out in a few weeks. If the problem is still occurring I will opt for foreflight.

New IPad Pro

The downloads are incredibly fast. So many new features have been added that wouldn’t work on my 7 year old iPad

Weather Issues

I had no complaints the first two years as a user, however this is no longer the same. Rarely now am I able to get METARs and TAFs to load. No weather appears on the map. Very frustrating as I pay for this service yet I have to go find it online still.

EIS data not working

EIS Data m Not working. I don’t even have the option to turn it on. Tried tech support they were no help.

Great with But

It’s a great and useful app. My only concern is that there is no option of adding and fly to a set coordinates.

Too expensive for what you get

This is a joke of an app. Tried it and it has the worst interface. Going to iFly.

Lack of Jeppesen Features

Garmin you should offer all Jeppesen Features not only charts; you are missing jeppesen ifr enroute charts, vfr charts.
